On Friday, February 26th, Governor Polis announced changes to Colorado’s COVID-19 vaccination distribution phasing. These modifications impact everyone that has yet to be vaccinated. If you have not yet, sign up for our vaccine notices to stay up to date about vaccinations eligibility and receive emails/text notifications when you can schedule an appointment.
Pitkin County is committed to ensuring everyone that wants a vaccine will get one in an equitable way at the time they are eligible. Based on the State changes, Pitkin County is implementing the following vaccination distribution plan.
Note: If the sector you work in is not specified below, it is not a priority group. Your eligibility for a vaccine is based on your age and health condition.
Phase 1A
- People who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period
- Long-term care facility staff and residents
Phase 1B.1
- Individuals 70 and over
- Health care workers with less direct contact with COVID-19 patients. Includes:
- Home health, hospice, pharmacy, dental, etc.
- EMS
- At-home/unpaid caregivers for elderly or those with health conditions (added 3/1)
- Public safety personnel which is limited to
- Firefighters,
- Police,
- COVID-19 response
- Correctional workers,
- Funeral services,
- Utility workers (added 2/22)
- Building inspectors (added 3/1)
Phase 1B.2
- Individuals age 65 and older
- PreK-12 educators which include bus, food, counselors, admin, safety, and other support services
- Child care workers
- Licensed child care
- Organizations critical to family stability (added 2/8)
- Self-identified at-home childcare (added 2/22)
- Members of the executive and judicial branches of state government
Phase 1B.3
- Individuals age 60 and older
- Individuals 16-59 with two or more high-risk health conditions as identified below
- Cancer (treatment in past month)
- Chronic kidney disease
- COPD
- Diabetes mellitus (type 1&2)
- Down Syndrome
- Specific heart conditions
- Obesity
- Pregnancy
- Sickle cell disease
- Solid organ transplant
- Individuals with disabilities who require direct care in their home.
- Individuals w/ disabilities that prevent mask-wearing.
- Frontline Essential Workers in Critical Infrastructure
- Grocery & Agriculture
- Meatpacking workers
- Grocery store workers
- Agricultural processing workers
- Gas Stations
- Public Transit and Specialized Transportation
- Buses, taxis and shuttle drivers (includes hotel shuttles)
- Road and bridge/maintenance staff
- Air traffic controllers, pilots, and airline stewards
- Essential Human Service and Public Health
- Public health and environment staff, including inspectors, engaged in direct public health service delivery.
- Social workers, community health workers, those who work in client homes in community locations, and at human services work locations, and others who provide direct or in-person services to elderly and disabled populations, at domestic violence advocacy organizations, or in-person resource providers. Direct care providers for those experiencing homelessness
- Faith leaders and Clergy
- Frontline Essential Journalists
- Postal Service and Delivery Couriers
- Grocery & Agriculture
Phase 1B.4
- Individuals age 50 and over
- Individuals 16 – 49 with one or more of the following high-risk health conditions
- All items as outlined in 1B.3 plus
- Asthma
- Cerebrovascular disease
- Cystic Fibrosis
- High Blood Pressure
- Immunocompromised
- Immune deficiencies
- HIV
- Use of corticosteroids
- Neurologic conditions
- Liver disease
- Pulmonary Fibrosis
- Frontline Essential Workers
- Student Facing Higher Education Faculty and Staff
- Includes instructors, professors, vocational educators and staff providing safety and other support services offered inside the school.
- Frontline essential in:
- Food/restaurant services (includes food pantry/assistance workers)
- Manufacturing
- Continuity of Local government
- Continuity of State government
- Student Facing Higher Education Faculty and Staff
- Individuals that received a placebo vaccination
Phase 2
Any individuals who were not included in earlier phases because they have lower risk of exposure or are less likely to have severe outcomes from COVID-19. This phase may be further segmented by age if needed as determined by the State.
