On May 19th, the CDC updated their recommendations to allow ages 5-11 to receive a pediatric Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster dose to increase their protection against the virus. This booster can be given at least five months after kids over five have received their two-dose series. This would be a third dose for healthy children and a fourth dose for children who are immunocompromised. Wondering if you are eligible for a booster? Data from the CDC shows that less than a third of American children between the ages of 5 and 11 have currently received two doses of the vaccine. Data also continues to show the importance of vaccination and booster doses to protect individuals both from infection and severe outcomes of COVID-19. During the recent Omicron surge, those who were boosted were 21-times less likely to die from COVID-19 compared to those who were unvaccinated, and 7-times less likely to be hospitalized. Getting boosted will help you and your loved ones stay safe and protected for the summer season. Check out our upcoming clinics here.
